Today Helen Williams, Knowledge Specialist, at RHCH is celebrating a year attending the ICU ward round and the 61 searches she has done to directly support patient care.

Below is a quote from Richard Thomas, ICU consultant:
"We are very fortunate to include Helen within the multi-disciplinary critical care team. The prescence of a librarian is an innovation that has led to useful discussions and re-evaluation of evidence and treatment. As a team we are better informed and more up to date. To give a concrete example: One ward round that Helen was supporting asked a question about a common clinical dilemma. Helen researched the area and brought the clinical team's attention to a set of guidelines of which we had been previously unaware. This led to a full audit cycle project where we were able to identify inconsistencies in practice. This project is expected to lead to improvements in the way patients are cared for on ICU."
